What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Regenerative Agriculture (Regen-Ag) is a practical approach to farming that rebuilds soil health, captures carbon, and boosts farm resilience. It replaces extractive practices with methods that restore natural processes: cover crops, reduced tillage, organic amendments, diversified crop systems and smarter water use.

How we implement Regen-Ag

  • Farmer training and demonstrations: Hands-on field demonstrations and Training-of-Trainers to help farmers adopt and adapt regenerative practices.
  • Soil health interventions: Introduction of compost, vermicompost and biochar to increase soil organic carbon and improve moisture and nutrient retention.
  • Integrated cropping systems: Rotations, cover crops and agroforestry to enhance biodiversity and reduce pest pressure.
  • Low-disturbance management: Encouraging minimal tillage and other practices that preserve soil structure.
  • Digital monitoring & traceability: Field-level data collection, geo-tagged photos and batch IDs to track interventions, measure outcomes, and ensure integrity for buyers and impact reporting.

Regenerative Agriculture

Benefits for farmers, communities and long-term supply resilience

Benefits for farmers & communities
  • Higher resilience and productivity: Healthier soils support stable or improved yields and greater resistance to drought and extreme weather.
  • Lower input costs: Reduced reliance on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides over time.
  • New revenue streams: Access to premium markets and potential carbon finance for verifiable soil carbon improvements.
  • Social gains: Local employment, stronger farmer organisations and increased opportunities for women’s economic participation.
How we measure impact

We track adoption and outcomes using clear, field-level indicators:

  • Hectares under regenerative practices
  • Number of farmers trained and organised into groups
  • Soil organic carbon change (where feasible)
  • Yield and net income changes versus baseline
  • Co-benefits such as reduced burning, biodiversity improvements and women’s participation

Why CottonGuru focuses on regenerative agriculture

Regenerative agriculture aligns smallholder livelihoods with climate and soil restoration goals. By combining farmer training, soil-health inputs (including biochar), certified traceability and market linkages, CottonGuru helps farmers capture both ecological and economic value while producing a more reliable and responsible cotton supply. Our projects are designed to be measurable and scalable, connecting field-level change to broader climate and market outcomes.
